Sing to the Lord a new song, Sing to the Lord, all the earth. Sing to the Lord, praise His name, Proclaim His salvation day after day. Declare His glory among the nations, His marvelous deeds among all peoples. Psalm 96:1-2
At Fredericksburg United Methodist Church we recognize the important role music plays in the life of our community of faith. As we build upon the firm foundation of Christ and a rich history of quality church music through the years here at FUMC, we are blessed to have a diverse group of talented musicians who serve faithfully in the music ministry.
Whatever your age, level of experience, or stylistic preference...
there is a place for you in the Music Ministry of Fredericksburg United Methodist Church.
It is through song that many Christians, young and old, internalize the basic tenants of our Christian faith. Each worship service is carefully planned so that there is ample time for all to hear the Word of God as well as time to respond to God’s love through word and song.
Each and every Sunday morning you will hear and experience numerous opportunities to communicate with the Lord through music. Sometimes our song is praise. Sometimes our song is comfort. Sometimes our song is petition to God. Sometimes our song is proclamation of God’s faithfulness.
Whatever our song may be, as recipients of the unimaginable grace and mercy of our Lord...
...how can we keep from singing?
Chancel Choir
The Chancel Choir provides music leadership at both the 8:00 and 11:00 traditional worship services. Beginning this fall, the choir now has two sections which meet and rehearse together, the Alpha and the Omega. Some singers actually sing for both services, but the majority choose to attend either the early or late worship. The Chancel Choir also is the main group that provides special musical events such as Christmas, Easter and the City of Fredericksburg July 4th Fireworks Concert. You don’t have to be a music reader to sing with us, but it does help! Come and join us on Wednesday evenings at 7:00!
Praise Team The Praise Team is the main music leadership for our contemporary worship time at 9:00 Sunday mornings. All ages are invited to participate, singers and instrumentalists. Rehearsals are on Thursday evenings at 6:00.
Wesleyan Bell Choir FUMC’s handbell choir has been ringing for many years. Under the direction of Leah Sheilds, the bells play periodically on Sunday worship as well as special programs throughout the year. This group also is assisting other area churches in establishing their own bell choirs. Prior music experience is a plus, but this is definitely a group where you will learn how to read music quickly! The bell choir rehearses on Wednesday evenings at 6:00 in the choir room.
Orchestra FUMC is blessed to have quite a few instrumentalists - former and current band members who give of their talents to music ministry opportunities. We use instrumentalists periodically throughout the year, but especially on holiday events. We are always looking for additional instrumentalists to join our group. Please contact Don Doss if you are interested in playing your instrument with us!
Youth Band In cooperation with the student ministries of FUMC, we are starting a student choir/band group including singers and instrumentalists. If you are interested in joining this group please contact either Don Doss or Bryan Rogers. This group will lead student worship on Wednesday evenings as well as occasionally sing for the regular worship services on Sunday morning and add to the special musical events through the year.
Kid’s Music Academy Our KMA is a super an outlet for children to learn to express their love of God through song. Emphasis is placed on good singing habits and learning to read music, as well as learning together how fun singing actually can be!
Classes are each Wednesday evening as part of our Church Alive programming at 5:30 to 6:30. Performances of our Academy kids include the Children’s Christmas Presentation and the Spring Musical.
It’s important to understand that we believe that all children are inherently musical and that our job is simply to cultivate their God-given talents and encourage them to use those talents for His service. All children pre-K through 4th grade are invited to participate. Home schooled children are welcome to help enrich their musical training in a group environment.
Contact Don Doss for more information.
