About the event
On this day, we celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. He is Risen! Easter has several names throughout history, and the names differ depending on languages, but most are derived from Greek and Latin pascha, which is taken from the Hebrew (פֶּסַח : Pesach), meaning "Passover". The modern English term Easter developed from the Old English word Ēastre or Ēostre which derives from Proto-Germanic austrōn, itself a descendant of the Proto-Indo-European root aus-, meaning "to shine". The Resurrection of Christ on Easter Day is the main reason why we Christians keep every Sunday as the primary day of religious observance. Easter is the first day of the new season of the Great Fifty Days, or Eastertide, which runs from Easter Day all the way to Pentecost Sunday.
