About the event
January 21 - 3PM | Texas Children’s Choir
Now in its 16th year, the Texas Children’s Choir is a San Antonio community based choir comprised of 56 boys and girls aged 8-18, selected and trained to perform service for the local, state, and national community. They provide music for 10-15 ceremonies, conventions, and other events by civic, military command, educational, and charitable organizations each performing season. The choir’s long history of quality choral music and service to the community has been cited in the Congressional records of the US and Texas Houses of Representatives. The quality of the choir’s music has been recognized throughout the country, having been selected by the Texas Music Educators Association to sing as honor choir at its annual convention, by an invitation to be featured with the Mormon Tabernacle Choir on its weekly television broadcast of “Music and the Spoken Word”, and being invited to provide the music for the Presidents of the United States and France at White House ceremonies at Omaha Beach, Normandy, France for the 60th anniversary of D-Day. They were invited on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of D-Day, to sing the closing concert at the annual Ceremony of Peace for all of Europe, at the town of Sainte-Marie-Eglise, and a concert at Omaha Beach, both in Normandy, France. They sang for the French Consulate General upon its presentation of the French Medal of Honor to American veterans who fought at Normandy during World War II and at ceremonies for Recipients of the Silver Star Medal. They have sung for the annual conventions of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Pearl Harbor Survivor’s Association, and for each of the Veterans Day ceremonies at the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery for the last 14 years. They performed a concert at the Women’s Memorial at the Arlington National Cemetery. The choir has performed with the US Army Band “Pershing’s Own”, the US Air Force Band and Singing Sergeants, the San Antonio Symphony, the US Air Force Band of the West, and the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra on Temple Square. They singers have performed concerts at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, at Carnegie Hall, sung evensong at Washington National Cathedral, and performed concerts at the National Gallery of Art, Carnegie Hall, the Cathedral Abbey of St. Albans in England, and at the Cathedral of Notre Dame in Paris. They provided music for the inaugural events of Texas Governor Gregg Abbott, and for the unveiling of the Texas Viet Nam Veterans Memorial at the State Capitol. In 2016, they honored a request by the US Air Force Symphony to sing the treble choir part of John Rutter’s “Mass of the Children” , at the annual Memorial Day concert at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washinton, D.C. They were invited in Christmas of 2015 to sing for President Obama at the White House.
